Jon Worrell, 57, who is being held in the Coffee County Jail on murder charges in connection with the 2006 shooting death of his wife, Doris Worrell, has been denied bond. The denial was filed Monday afternoon.
Worrell was arrested on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, in Maryville, Missouri, and charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery, and conspiracy to commit murder. He was extradited to Coffee County and was booked into the Coffee County Jail on Thursday, May 22, 2025. On June 10, 2025, a Grand Jury indicted Worrell on malice murder, felony murder, and conspiracy to commit murder charges.
Worrell was denied bond because the court believed he was a flight risk. Since his wife’s murder on September 20, 2006, Worrell has lived in Fernandina Beach, Fla.; Costa Rica; British Columbia; Kansas; and Missouri. In his bond motion, his attorneys stated that despite the fact that he has lived in so many places over the last nearly 19 years, including two outside of the United States, he was not a flight risk. The court disagreed.
The bond hearing took place on Thursday, June 26, 2025. The ruling to deny bond was filed on Monday, June 30, 2025. Worrell remains in the Coffee County Jail.
