A traffic stop that began because of a taillight that was out landed a 39-year-old in jail on illegal drug charges.
According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, around 11:30 p.m. on June 11, 2025, an officer noticed a 2013 Kia Optima on North Madison Avenue with a taillight out. The officer stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver, identified as Demiro Jimintez Shaw, 39, of Douglas. The report states that the officer smelled marijuana in the vehicle but Shaw denied having any marijuana inside.
Other officers arrived and they searched the Kia. Officers found a brown cigar that contained suspected marijuana and a small piece of suspected crack cocaine. The white substance tested positive for crack cocaine at the scene. Shaw agreed to allow officers to search his home on North College Avenue. After the search, the Kia was turned over to Shaw’s niece. He was arrested for allegedly violating the Georgia Controlled Substances Act and was transported to the Coffee County Jail.
