A 19-year-old allegedly lied about being a juvenile, attempted to flee when an officer tried to arrest him, then punched the officer in the groin before being taken into custody.
According to an incident report from the Douglas Police Department, on June 27, 2025, just before 11 p.m., an officer stopped at the North Madison Avenue Park when he saw two individuals in the park. One of the individuals “demanded to know why I was getting out with them.” The officer told the men they were being detained and were not free to leave.
The report says that Deuntra Wesly Esther, 19, lied about being a juvenile. The officer attempted to arrest him and Esther started to run, the report says. Then he stopped and the officer “placed the subject up against the wooden post of the shelter” and instructed him to turn around. The officer took Esther by the shoulders and tried to turn him around to handcuff him, according to the report. As the officer was turning Esther around, the report says that Esther punched him in the groin. After the officer handcuffed Esther, he found a kitchen knife in the pocket of Esther’s jacket.
Esther was arrested and transported to the Coffee County Jail on charges of resisting arrest and escape.
