The Keep Douglas Beautiful (KDB) Board held its annual retreat on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at City Hall in the city commission chambers. The retreat set the stage for yearly goals and also focused on community awareness and local involvement.

“I want our board to excel and be more visible this year,” says Alyssa Fussell, KDB Executive Director. “Our commitment to a cleaner Douglas is unwavering, and with the new restructuring of the stewardship program, we are ready to engage more with our community, amplify our outreach efforts, and boost our volunteer numbers.”

Allisa Jackson, the President of KDB, opened the retreat with encouraging remarks for the committee. Meagan Whitehead, the Program & Affiliate Support Manager for Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation (KGBF), along with Natalie Johnston-Russell, KGBF’s Executive Director, facilitated the retreat. Following the morning session that focused on strengthening KDB’s community impact, the board turned its focus to developing a stewardship program, concentrating on the roles, responsibilities, and needs of volunteers.  Members engaged in discussions and formulated actionable goals tailored to each role in the stewardship program.

In closing, members reviewed the annual work plan and voted on initiatives that could be accomplished in 2025-2026. Upcoming events already established include outreach and education programs in the schools, a park cleanup day, and a senior gardening project in the Fall.

For more information about how to get involved, please contact Alyssa Fussell at 912-383-0277 or email afussell@cityofdouglasga.gov.
