The charges against three individuals who had been indicted on misdemeanor charges in connection with the death of Vann Brown on January 1, 2020, at a party in Ambrose have been dropped.

According to an order filed on August 5, 2025, the charges against Daniel Anderson, Morgan Lewis, and Corey Waylon Johnson have been dropped due to prosecutorial discretion. The order also states that the State would like “to preserve the ability to refile later if new evidence arises.”

Anderson, Lewis, and Johnson were charged with reckless conduct because prosecutors believed their actions on the night of Brown’s death “did unlawfully endanger the bodily safety of Warren Vann Brown by consciously disregarding a substantial and unjustifiable risk that his act of restraining him in such a manner as he was unable to defend himself . . .”

Though these charges have been dropped, proceedings related to Brown’s death are not over. The attorney for the lone individual convicted in the case, Jason Anderson, has filed a motion seeking a new trial. Also, two individuals – David Spivey and Joey Anderson – still have embracery (jury tampering) charges pending. They have a court date later this month.
