The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office recently celebrated one of its most dedicated employees. Jail officer Lamar Brockington has decided to retire after 36 years of service.

Over the course of his career, he has served under five different sheriff’s, multiple jail supervisors, and even at two different facilities. Through it all, Lamar remained a dedicated and loyal officer. He carried himself with a steady and humble spirit, and has been a mentor, friend, and a pillar of integrity who legacy will live far beyond his last shift.

A post on the sheriff’s office’s Facebook page stated the following: “Lamar, thank you for giving this agency and this county the very best of yourself for nearly four decades. We are better because of your service, and you leave behind shoes that will be hard to fill. Enjoy this next chapter of well-earned rest, family time, and all the joys retirement brings. You will always be a part of the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office family.”

The sheriff’s office honored Lamar with a celebration at the law enforcement center with his friends, family, and co-workers.

Earlier this week, the county commission announced that road superintendent Wendell Troupe is retiring effective August 15, 2025. Wendell has been with the county for 53 years. With his exit, the county has seen two employees with nearly 90 years of service retire in a short period of time.

Good luck, gentlemen, and enjoy your retirement.
