A Douglas police officer arrested one individual as a result of a welfare check investigation on Peachtree Street. The incident took place on July 28, 2025, just before 5 p.m.

According to the incident report, the call came in after a neighbor heard glass breaking then saw a female subject come from behind the home. She was on the phone screaming at someone. When she noticed that someone had seen her, the report says that she began walking toward Eastside Park.

The officer arrived and went to the home where the incident had taken place. He saw a broken window and went to Eastside Park. When he arrived, he saw a woman who matched the description of the subject given by the witness. When asked her name, she said it was Jameshia Scott and she lived at a Maple Street address.

The officer noticed that her hand had a cut on it consistent with punching a broken window, the report says. At that point, he said he was going to place her under arrest. The report says that she then started running away. She wouldn’t stop so the officer attempted to tase her. His attempts were unsuccessful; however, other units arrived and were able to locate her.

She was identified as Cerenydi Thornton, 18, of Douglas. She had an active criminal warrant through the sheriff’s office. She was transported to the Coffee County Jail and served the warrant. Thornton was booked into the jail on charges of criminal trespass, giving false name and information to police, and obstruction. She was later released.
