The attorneys for Jon Worrell, who stands accused of having his wife, Dorris Worrell, killed on September 20, 2006, have filed a motion requesting a change of venue for his future trial. The motion, signed by attorneys J. Travis Griffin and P. McKenzie Miller, was filed on July 24, 2025.

The motion cites a significant amount of media attention regarding the death of Doris Worrell, from traditional media outlets to social media posts, blogs, podcasts, and other non-traditional forms of media. The motion also cites Coffee County Fred Cole, who, according to the motion, stated during an interview with In Touch that authorities have found new leads, including a possible identity of the individual hired to kill Doris Worrell.

Also in the motion is a recap of developments in the case, including a mention of the 2008 arrests of Glidden Rodriguez and Brandon Cage for conspiracy to commit murder in connection with Doris Worrell’s death. Both were eventually released from jail and the charges dropped. Rodriguez died in 2020. The motion further states that “no statement, proffer, nor dying declaration exists which implicates Mr. Rodriguez, himself, nor Brandon Cage or Jon Worrell in the death of Doris Worrell.”

The motion further states that there are about 26,000 potential qualified jurors in Coffee County. Given the relative small population and the amount of publicity the case has generated over the last 19 years, the defense would not be able to find an impartial jury to hear Worrell’s case.

A date for Worrell’s trial has not been set.

The filing can be seen below in its entirety.
