The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office has charged Demaurio Sutton, age 42, of Douglas, in connection with an ongoing theft investigation.
On August 15, 2025, at approximately 10:40 p.m., deputies responded to a report of theft at a property in Coffee County. The property included a residence that had sustained severe damage during Hurricane Helene as well as an adjacent shelter.
Upon arrival, deputies learned that the property had been unlawfully entered and that a game camera mounted inside the shelter had been stolen along with other items. The game camera took photos of the suspect and sent them to the owner’s cell phone.
In addition to the theft of the known items, the property owners reported that an attempt had been made to remove a safe from inside the damaged residence.
Based on the investigation, Demaurio Sutton was identified as the individual responsible and has been formally charged with theft by taking. He was booked into the Coffee County Jail.
