The Coffee Trojans are 2-0 this week after wins over Brantley (7-5) and Telfair (12-0). Maggie Brown struck out 19 on Tuesday against Brantley while Kanlee Douglas needed just 48 pitches and five innings to take care of Telfair County on Wednesday. Both games were played on the road.

On Tuesday, both teams waited until relatively late to get on the board. Brantley jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth. The Lady Trojans countered with four in the sixth. Brantley scored one in the bottom of the inning. Coffee answered with three in the seventh on a home run by Ella Winters, her third of the year. Brantley scored three more in the same inning.

Karlee Thomas was 3-3 with two runs. Ella Edge was 2-4 with a run. Winters was 1-3 with three RBI and a run scored. Allie Pridgen drove in two as well.

As for Brown, she threw 134 pitches and surrendered five runs (three earned) on six hits. She only walked three to go with her 19 strikeouts.

Wednesday’s contest in McCrae was a little less dramatic. The Lady Trojans scored in every inning while holding Telfair scoreless throughout the game. Coffee tallied 16 hits while holding Telfair to two hits. The Lady Trojans also took advantage of four Telfair errors.

RiRi Paulk was a perfect 4-4 with two runs and two RBI. Ella Winters was 3-4 with four runs and an RBI. Douglas went 3-4 with a run and three RBI. Winters and Douglas both homered as well.

Douglas threw a two-hit shutout, striking out three with no walks.

The Lady Trojans are 9-4 on the season and have one more non-region game today before returning to the region schedule against Thomas County Central next week. This afternoon, Coffee travels to Pierce for a 6 p.m. showdown with the Bears.
