House fire east of Douglas claims one life

A house fire on Bobcat Trail east of Douglas claimed one life Thursday afternoon.

Shortly after 2 p.m., Coffee County firefighters responded to a structure fire at a home on Bobcat Trail. Once it ignited, the fire spread quickly and it did not take long before house was fully involved. There were two people in the home when the fire erupted. One of the occupants was able to get out of the home. The other, however, was not.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. First responders had a portion of Bobcat Trail closed while fire crews worked the scene. The other occupant of the house was transported to Coffee Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Officials will conduct a thorough investigation of the fire.
