he Coffee Lady Trojans took the season series against the Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets after splitting a doubleheader on Thursday in Douglas. Coffee had defeated TCC Tuesday in Thomasville. The Yellow Jackets won the first game 5-3 but the Lady Trojans rebounded in game two and shut out TCC 3-0.
In game one, Ella Edge (3-4, one RBI) and Karlee Thomas (2-3 with two runs scored and a walk) paced Coffee offensively. Starter Maggie Brown went the distance, striking out seven and walking just one. She also had a double and an RBI.
The nightcap was a different story. The Lady Trojans jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Thomas hit a solo home run in the first inning. In the fifth, Thomas led off with a double. She then stole third and scored when pitcher Kanlee Douglas tripled. Edge followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Douglas and put Coffee up 3-0.
That’s all the Lady Trojans would need thanks to an impressive pitching performance from Douglas. She scattered five hits across seven innings and struck out five. She didn’t walk anyone.
Douglas was 3-3 with a run and an RBI while Thomas was 2-3 with two runs and an RBI.
The Lady Trojans are 12-5 on the season and 5-4 in region play. They’ve got a busy schedule next week – Tuesday, Northside (Warner Robins) comes to town for a 5 p.m. game. Wednesday, they travel to Tift then resume the region schedule with a doubleheader against Northside in Warner Robins. Following the Northside series, Coffee will have one more region opponent – Lee County – this season.
