Friday afternoon, Sheriff Fred Cole along with Douglas police chief Brannen Pruette and Coffee County School System police chief Chris Elrod announced that law enforcement had received a threat regarding this weekend’s Coffee High School alumni events. The alumni bash began Thursday with events planned through the weekend.

The exact nature of the threat has not been revealed. It is, however, credible enough that local law enforcement have taken notice and pledged a greater police presence, particularly at Friday night’s football game between the Coffee Trojans and the Lee County Trojans at Jardine Stadium.

Here is the announcement as posted on the sheriff’s office Facebook page. A video of the announcement can also be seen below:

“We’ve received information regarding a potential threat to this weekend’s events. Let me be crystal clear: violence and disorder will NOT be tolerated. Anyone attempting to disrupt the peace will be swiftly dealt with.

“Our deputies will be out in full force to ensure everyone can enjoy the 2025 Alumni Weekend safely and without concern. We also need your help—if you see something, hear something, or feel something isn’t right, say something. Report it immediately so we can act fast and keep our community safe.

Together, we can ensure a peaceful and enjoyable weekend for all. Stay alert, stay safe.”
