It’s a long ride from Damascus, Georgia, to Douglas. It’s a doubly long ride if you’re making the trip after a tough defeat. Such was the case for the CCA Lady Patriots Thursday afternoon. They headed to Damascus to face 2A power Southwest Georgia Academy to finish off the regular season. The Warriors were not gracious hosts and handed the Lady Patriots an unceremonious 10-0, five-inning loss.
CCA managed just two hits – one each from Emma Gourley and Abrah Harris. Harris also stole a base.
The Warriors scored three in the second then broke the game open in the fourth with six runs. They added one in the fourth to get into run-rule territory. The Lady Patriots did get a runner on base in the fifth; Harris led off with a single then advanced to second on a wild pitch. That’s as far as she would get and the game ended when the Warriors recorded the final out of the fifth inning.
Peighton Harper and Gracie Giddens handled the pitching duties. Harper started and gave up nine runs (five earned) on six hits. She struck out one and walked three. Giddens fared a little better; she surrendered one earned run on one hit. She walked one Warrior.
The Lady Patriots finish the season with a 21-5 overall record and a perfect 12-0 region mark. They are ranked #1 in the state in Class A and #5 in the Albany area among all teams in all classifications, according to Max Preps. CCA will defend its state title in Columbus when the playoffs begin. DouglasNow will release the playoff matchups when they are announced.
