A 50-year-old who allegedly burglarized a local laundromat on September 7, 2025 remained free over two weeks until he was finally apprehended on September 23, 2025.

An incident report from the Douglas Police Department states that around 11:30 p.m. on September 7, an officer responded to a burglary call at a local laundromat. The suspect had entered the back door of the business using a crowbar and had attempted to get into the office. The suspect, later identified as Jimmy Lamar Smith, 50, of Douglas, later fled the scene.

The owner had surveillance video from inside the laundromat as well as video from earlier in the evening. The early video showed two individuals inside the business, one of whom appeared to be Smith.

An investigation led officers to Smith’s home where they found evidence connecting Smith to the burglary, including a crowbar, screwdriver, white gloves, and a hat like the one Smith was allegedly wearing during the burglary. The investigation also showed that Smith had an active warrant for burglary in the 2nd degree.

Officers took warrants for Smith’s arrest. He was apprehended on September 23, 2025, and booked into the Coffee County Jail around noon that day on burglary in the 2nd degree charges. He remains in the Coffee County Jail.
