Rev. Jerry Allen Chaney, Sr., age 79, of Pearson, Georgia, passed away Tuesday evening, December 16, 2025, at Irwin County Hospital, following a sudden illness.
Rev. Chaney was born June 7, 1946, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late Ben Chaney and the late Olif Harper Chaney. Following high school, he continued his education acquired his associate’s degree in biblical studies at Presbyterian Christian Academy. He was a minister in the Church of God for 48 years and then another 10 years in the Assembly of God where he retired in 2024. Rev. Chaney loved the Lord and he loved his congregations. He found great joy in hunting and fishing, as well as cooking. He was known by many for making peanut brittle.
Along with his parents Rev. Chaney was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Barbara Ann Taft Chaney; 2 brothers: Buddy Chaney, Bobby Chaney, Otis Chaney, Harper Chaney; 2 sisters: Lorene Sirmans, and Delia Lott.
Rev. Chaney leaves behind a daughter, Donna Melette Pobst (Aaron) of Sikeston, Missouri; a son, Jerry Allen Chaney, Jr. (Samantha) of Pearson, Georgia; 5 grandchildren: Courtney Bagley (Shawn) of Axson, Georgia, Carrie Bennett (Jacob) of Pearson, Georgia, Caleb Chaney (Lacey Courson) of Pearson, Georgia, Avery Pobst (Lacey) of Sikeston, Missouri, Colton Chaney of Pearson, Georgia; 5 great grandchildren: Aurora Bagley, Decklan Bagley, Brayden Bennett, Madison Bennett, Archer Pobst; a brother, J. T. Chaney of Ocilla, Georgia; and a sister, Glenn Ray Hutto of Ocilla, Georgia; along with a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family members, as well as a multitude of great church family members.
Rev. Chaney’s family will receive friends on Thursday evening, December 18, 2025, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the Ricketson Funeral Home Chapel and again Friday morning, December 19, 2025, from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM with his funeral service following a 11:00 AM in the Ricketson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Floyd Musgrove officiating. Interment will follow in the Lax Holiness Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will include: Avery Pobst, Caleb Chaney, Shawn Bagley, Jacob Bennett, Charlie Amerson, Aaron Amerson, Jason Anderson, and Jimmy Amerson.
