By Representative James Burchett (176th District)
Several weeks ago, folks from across the 176th District went to the polls to vote for our leaders.
We elected Mayors, Commissioners, Councils, and School Boards. We elected first-time candidates and incumbents. We elected business leaders, military veterans, mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters.
To all of our friends and neighbors who answered the call to public service this election cycle, congratulations on your victories. You presented your case to our community, you shared your vision, and your neighbors agreed with you.
Serving in public office is a privilege, but it is also a profound responsibility. I know that feeling well. Six years ago, when I first ran for the State House, I was motivated by a simple idea: that our government should be focused on serving the people.
I’ve continued to see firsthand how the decisions made in our state capitol and right here in our cities and counties impact everyday families.
Our collective success is built on the willingness of good people to step away from their careers and families for a time to do the hard work of governing.
I know that maintaining lines of communications to my constituents helps me do a better job. Hearing from my constituents on a daily basis ensures that I always have your best interests in mind.
I encourage our local leaders to do the same. Engage with your constituents moving forward. Use me as a resource for state issues that may impact you.
As the House Majority Whip – a leadership role I am able to hold based on your continued support – I know the power of a unified effort. That’s not just between Governor, House, and Senate in Atlanta, but also with our local leaders at home.
We need your partnership.
So, let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work.
