The Douglas City Commission had two items on its Monday, January 12, 2026, meeting – the swearing in of three commissioners and discussing the alcoholic beverage license for Los Tres Agaves Restaurant LLC.
The commission conducted a public hearing regarding the Los Tres Agaves alcohol license request. The restaurant is located at 306 South Peterson Avenue, between Kribs and Kradles and Hardware House. No one at the meeting spoke for or against the request; commissioners approved the license with little discussion.
Three commissioners who had been up for re-election last year took their oaths of office – Cindy McNeill (Ward 5), Mike Gowen (Ward 4), and Ed Taylor (Ward 1). Of the three, only Taylor had opposition in his bid for re-election. City attorney Jerome Adams administered the oaths for McNeil and Gowen, who took their oaths together. Commissioner Taylor, however, wanted to do something a little different.
On September 8, 2025, his wife of 48 years, Bobbie Jean, passed away. Commissioner Taylor took his oath of office from Mayor Tony Paulk. As he recited the oath, he placed his hand on his wife’s Bible, the book she leaned on during their life together. “This is special to me. This book is what my wife read and studied, and it got us through the ups and downs of our marriage. This is very meaningful to me,” an emotional Commissioner Taylor said afterwards. Commissioner Taylor’s family was also in attendance.
