A 31-year-old Douglas man who led deputies on a chase on January 19, 2026, and fled on foot after ditching the car was apprehended two days later and jailed.
According to a report from the sheriff’s office, just before 10 p.m. on January 19, a deputy saw a black Chrysler 300 on Highway 221 and Spring Oak Street that had a malfunctioning tag light and suspended registration. The officer initiated a traffic stop and the driver, identified as Dominique Shavon McKever, 31, of Douglas, attempted to flee, according to the report.
The report says McKever took off on 221 and turned on East Walker Street. He exceeded 70 mph in a 35 mph zone and continued to Peterson Avenue, where he turned left. Then he turned right on West Jefferson Street, made an improper lefthand turn, and jumped out of the car. The report says he fled south toward West Schley Street. Other officers arrived and tried to track McKever with a dog but were unsuccessful.
McKever was eventually taken into custody on January 21, 2026 and booked into the Coffee County Jail at 2:51 a.m. He was charged with a number of traffic violations as well as fleeing/attempting to elude officers. He has since been released.
