Highway 221/State Route 31 is now open following replacement of two old bridge culverts with new structures over Hog Creek and Hog Creek Tributary between Pearson and Lakeland.
The bridge culverts located south of Pearson were built in 1940. They were in poor condition and were designed when vehicles were not as heavy as those in use today. A detour was installed in May 2025 for non-local traffic for the duration of construction.
The Hog Creek culvert was replaced with a bridge with two, 12-foot lanes and 10-foot shoulders. The tributary culvert was replaced with a new culvert.
The construction cost is approximately $5 million.
