For the second consecutive year, the Coffee Lady Trojans are Region 2-5A region champions. The Lady Trojans defeated another set of Lady Trojans, these from Lee County, Friday night 60-50 at the Coffee High School gym to claim the title.
Coffee led the entire game, taking an 11-5 lead after the first quarter. Lee County fought back in the second quarter, narrowing the gap to three at halftime. In the third quarter, Coffee was up 45-31, eventually winning 60-50.
Lexie Bradford was named Player of the Game. She finished with 18 points and eight rebounds. Jasmine Porter tallied 15 points, four rebounds, three assists. Aria Paulk scored 13, grabbed four boards, and had three assists. Carrdreal Pearson (six points, three rebounds), Jazmin Moody (four points, three steals), Nahla Franklin (two points, one rebound), and Iryonnia Lewis (two points, eight rebounds) rounded out the scoring for Coffee.
Following the game, Lady Trojans head coach Tasha Kellogg was named region Coach of the Year while Porter (senior) was named Player of the Year. Lakener Edwards (senior) was named Defensive Player of the Year while Kolby Smith (freshman) earned Newcomer of the Year honors.
Bradford (senior) and Paulk (junior) were named First Team All Region. Pearson (junior) was Second Team All Region. Lewis (senior) received an All Region Honorable Mention nod.
Coffee finished the season with a 25-2 overall record and a perfect 10-0 region mark. The Lady Trojans will host a first-round playoff game later this month.
