A 43-year-old Douglas woman who allegedly stabbed her ex in the ribs behind Georgian Woods Apartments remains in the Coffee County Jail on aggravated assault charges.
According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, officers responded to the Circle K on the north side of town at 12:50 a.m. on March 25, 2026, in reference to a stabbing. When they arrived, they spoke with the victim, a male who said his ex, identified as Shandia Renee Thornton, 43, had stabbed him. The victim said he was on his way to a girl’s house. He was walking on the dirt path behind the apartments and Dollar General at the time the incident happened. The victim reported that Thornton stabbed him then left the scene in a black Nissan Altima.
The victim was taken to CRMC by EMS while officers searched for Thornton.
Another officer went to a Leader Street address where Thornton reportedly lived. Thornton was at the location. According to the report, she denied stabbing the victim but said she had been in the area of Georgian Woods Apartments when the stabbing happened. She had also been arguing with the girl the victim was going to see, according to the report. The officer asked if he could see messages on her phone and she refused, saying they were private.
Thornton was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. She was transported to the Coffee County Jail where she is being held without bond.
