Last week, the CCA Patriots track and field team competed at the GIAA Class AA Region 3 Meet held at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany. The top four finishers in each event automatically qualify for the state meet, while the next eight best performances across all regions also receive state bids.
For the girls, junior Arabelle Roberts led the way, qualifying in all three of her events. She captured the region title in the high jump and placed 2nd in both the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles.
On the boys’ side, junior Ethan Duran claimed the region championship in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 19’ 2.75”. Freshman Bo Roberts also brought home a region title in the shot put, setting a personal best and new school record with a throw of 41’ 7.5”.
Junior Connor Reckley also qualified for state, setting a new school record in the 100m (11.69) while finishing 2nd by just .03 seconds. He also added a 4th-place finish in the 200m.
The 4x100m relay team of Jonah Hall, Ethan Duran, Miller Hutchison, and Connor Reckley placed 5th and awaits a potential at-large bid to the state meet.
Rounding out the top eight finishers for the region were Bo Roberts (6th) and Luke Rudd (8th) in the discus.
Those advancing will compete at the GIAA Class AA State Meet, April 30 – May 2 at Strong Rock Christian School in Locust Grove.
