Mrs. Patricia Ann Singletary Newell, age 85 of Douglas, passed away Thursday morning, June 18 at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Newell was born April 28, 1941, to the late Garcie Singletary and Kate Singletary. Mrs. Newell was a retired teacher’s aide, having served many years in the Coffee County School System. She was a loving mother and grandmother who found immense joy in family gatherings. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, and thrifting. She loved the Lord and was a dedicated member of Morningside Baptist Church. Along with her parents, Mrs. Newell was preceded in death by her loving husband, Earl Lee Newell, and three brothers, Julian Singletary, Terrell Singletary, and Clayton Singletary.
Mrs. Newell leaves behind her children: Lataine Taylor and husband Terry of Fitzgerald, Georgia, Van Newell of Douglas, Georgia, and Chandler Newell and wife Allison of Douglas, Georgia; grandchildren: Dawn Sparks (Wesley Smith), Kate Newell (Daniel McElhaney), Abbie Newell, and Natalie Newell, all of Douglas, Georgia, and Zara Powers and husband Micah of Lakeland, Georgia; great-grandchildren: Braleigh Smith, Oceana Newell, and Beacher McElhaney of Douglas, Georgia, and Ethan Powers and Harper Powers of Lakeland, Georgia; along with a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Mrs. Newell’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 10:00 A.M. in the Ricketson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Bounds officiating. Interment in the family plot at Douglas City Cemetery will take place at a later date.
