A 37-year-old Douglas woman remains in the Coffee County Jail after she allegedly concealed a quantity of methamphetamine inside her body.
According to an incident report from the sheriff’s office, a deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding on Highway 158 East and Jesse Gillis Loop. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Nadawneica Shawneice Alexander, 37, of Douglas.
During the stop, the officer smelled burnt marijuana inside the vehicle. Alexander also allegedly had a suspended driver’s license. Another officer arrived at the scene with a K9 unit. Officers found a small magnetic box in Alexander’s purse that contained suspected methamphetamine. According to the report, Alexander denied knowing the box contained illegal drugs.
A female officer was also on the scene and she searched Alexander. During the search, Alexander allegedly placed her hand behind her in a manner consistent with attempting to hide something. The report says that Alexander stated that it was a feminine hygiene product.
Alexander was arrested and transported to the Coffee County Jail. While at the jail, officers saw Alexander continue to adjust something inside the back of her shorts. The officers obtained a search warrant and took Alexander to Coffee Regional Medical Center for an x-ray. At the hospital, when Alexander found out they had the search warrant, she admitted that she had a “zip” – a quantity of methamphetamine – inside her vagina.
The report says that Alexander removed the meth in the presence of a female officer. A field test confirmed that it was methamphetamine and it weighed 27.2 grams.
Alexander was charged with possession of a Schedule I or II Controlled Substance with intent to distribute; tampering with evidence; driving with a suspended license; and crossing state/county guard lines with weapons, intoxicants, or drugs without consent. She was booked into the Coffee County Jail and remains incarcerated.
