A 23-year-old Fitzgerald man was arrested and charged with burglary after he allegedly walked into a house and took four drinks from the refrigerator.
According to a report from the sheriff’s office, on June 8, 2026, just before 4 p.m., a deputy responded to a Nicholls Road address in response to a suspicious person call. The complainant reported that she was on the couch in her living room when a man walked in, went to the refrigerator, and took four drinks. The complainant asked the man, identified as Marcus Powell, 23, of Fitzgerald, what he was doing. The report says that he replied that he was looking for some pills he dropped.
Powell then began drinking the drinks, according to the report. The complainant told him to leave, which he did, but he continued hanging around outside. Another officer found Powell in the road near the house and detained him. In the report, Powell stated that he knew the people who lived in the house and he had just been there for a birthday party. He said that those were his drinks in the refrigerator, according to the report. However, the complainant and others in the house said they had never seen him before.
Officers arrested Powell and charged him with burglary in the 1st degree. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail where he remains.
