Deputies arrested a 57-year-old after he allegedly stole copper from Satilla REMC and attempted to sell it to Jewell’s Recycling so he could go to the doctor, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.
The report says that on June 17, 2026, just before 1 p.m., a deputy responded to a theft call. When he arrived at the location, the complainant stated that two rolls of copper wire were missing. One was missing from a recycling bin and the other had been taken from a truck on the premises.
Suspecting that the alleged thief would take the copper to Jewell’s, the complainant contacted them and let them know someone might be coming by. At 3:10 p.m., someone from Jewell’s called the complainant and said someone was there trying to sell copper.
When officers arrived, they learned that Eric Lamar Campbell, 57, of Douglas, was the individual who had attempted to sell the copper. Campbell was detained and the copper was returned to Satilla.
At first, the report says that Campbell refused to talk. Later, he admitted to taking the wire and attempting to sell it so he could go to the dermatologist.
Campbell was arrested and charged with criminal trespass and entering an auto. He was transported to the Coffee County where he remains incarcerated.
