Saturday night, a deputy with the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office ended a chase that began with a fatal shooting in Crisp County and went through several counties, including Coffee and Jeff Davis.
Officers from multiple agencies, including the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Crisp County Sheriff’s Office, Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office, Hazlehurst Police Department, Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, and Georgia State Patrol, were involved in the investigation that led to the chase and the chase itself.
WALB has reported that the suspect, who has not been identified, allegedly shot two people in Crisp County, one of them fatally. The deceased is Correnthian Jeremiah Cooks, 20, according to the WALB report. The injured individual is Damien Johnson, 19. He was transferred to Madison Healthcare in Macon for treatment, according to WALB.
The chase ended when a Coffee County deputy performed a PIT maneuver on the suspect between Snipesville and Hazlehurst. Saturday night, the Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement on its Facebook page letting citizens know that units were between Hazlehurst and Snipesville investigating an incident that began in Crisp County.
Following the PIT maneuver, the suspect was taken into custody.sho
