Trash collection. It’s one of the biggest complaints Coffee County citizens have. The city and county have been served by GFL Environmental and the service has been poor – to put it nicely. You name it – late pickups, no pickups, damaged cans, the inability to contact GFL personnel with complaints and concerns – for far too long, these and other problems have been a thorn in the sides of both citizens and local government alike.
The contracts the city and county had with GFL expired at different times. The city’s expired this year while the county’s doesn’t expire until April of next year. The entities have been working on a way to continue at the very least until the current contract ends.
Enter Ryland Environmental.
Ryland stepped in and has purchased GFL’s Coffee County operation. Effective today, Ryland takes over the job of trash collection in both the city and county. The expectation is to continue with Ryland upon the end of the current contract next April.
Ryland Environmental has contracts with a number of counties in the area and all are reportedly very satisfied with the service they receive. This arrangement has been in the works for quite some time and it should be very beneficial for the citizens of Coffee County.
Ryland Environmental released the following statement on its Facebook page Wednesday:
