George Fletcher, age 73, of Broxton, GA passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026 at his home following an extended illness. George was born on August 31, 1952 to the late Gerald Fletcher Sr. and the late Doris Stone Fletcher.
George farmed for many years then returned to school at East Central Tech and graduated with a HVAC degree. He worked in HVAC at Amercord for nineteen years. He returned to East Central Tech and taught HVAC for three and a half years. He ended his career at Husqvarna with twelve years in maintenance and HVAC before he retired.
He gave his life to Jesus on Feb. 9, 2000, during a revival at the old location of Broxton Church of God. He would tell the story that night, when we arrived, the church was full except the front row. So that’s where we sat. When the alter call was given, all he had to do was kneel and he prayed through to victory. He was a new man. He was an avid member of the Douglas Christian Fellowship Church of God for many years.
He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. We enjoyed many fish fries with friends after early morning fishing trips to the river.
He was known for joke telling and always with that big smile on his face.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Janice McCook Fletcher of Broxton Georgia; one daughter, Janet (Andrew) Welsh of Lakeland, GA; four grandchildren: Laken (Charlie) Amerson, Ethan (Emily) Collins of Broxton, GA, Hannah (Joey) Roberts of Moultrie, GA, and Breeanna Welsh of Lakeland, GA; three great-grandchildren: Maddox Taft, Ayven Amerson, and Kohdyn Amerson; along with several nieces, nephews and friends.
