Mr. Roy Metts, age 76, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, with his loving wife of 45 years, Chris Metts by his side.
Roy was born January 31, 1950, in Pearson, Georgia, to the late Dan Metts and the late Ollie Guess Metts. He made his career in the funeral service industry where he devoted many years to serving families in the South Georgia area prior to his retirement. He had a heart for people and loved to work helping families in their most heartbroken times. Outside of work, he enjoyed fishing, working in his yard, and above all spending family time with Chris, his family and his beloved fur babies. He was of the Baptist faith. Along with his parents, Roy was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Metts; and a stepson, Ken Rickerson.
Roy leaves behind his devoted wife of 45 years, Chris Metts of Douglas, Georgia; grandchild, Chelsea Burke of Douglas, Georgia; special friends: Billy, Nell and B.J. Taylor; and his beloved fur baby, Peeka; along with a number of extended family members.
Roy’s funeral will be held on Friday afternoon, July 10, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the Ricketson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Carroll Paulk officiating. Interment will follow in Sweetwater Cemetery in Atkinson County. Roy’s family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM for one hour prior to the funeral service in the Ricketson Funeral Home Chapel.
