A 2 a.m. interaction with a motorist stopped at a green light on West Green Road took a bizarre turn and ended up landing a 39-year-old in jail on false report of a crime charges, according to a report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office.
The report states that on July 10, 2026, at approximately 2 a.m., a deputy pulled up behind a white Toyota Corolla that was stopped in the turning lane at the red light near T&R Food Mart on West Green Road. The driver, identified as Stacy Lamar Martin, 39, of Broxton, said that he had a flat tire and also that he wanted to make a report on his girlfriend for stealing two debit cards and turning off his cell phone.
According to the report, deputy asked Martin to pull into the nearby convenience store. Martin said that his girlfriend, who lives in Atlanta, had stolen a Wells Fargo card and a Chime card. During the discussion, the report says that Matin became agitated, particularly when another deputy arrived. They ran his name, which also upset him, and discovered that he was on felony probation, according to the report.
Martin had a 4th Amendment waiver so the officers searched his vehicle. In the process, they found the two cards that he said had been stolen. The report says that he continued to berate the officers. He was placed under arrest and, the report says, positioned his legs in the patrol car so that officers couldn’t close the door. He remained belligerent while on the way to the jail and threatened the officers when they arrived at the jail, the report says.
The report adds that during the incident “he was sweating, displeased with our presence despite asking for our presence, seemed to be having trouble remembering little details, and demonstrated paranoia. None of the information he provided could be verified. He was not acting in a way that demonstrated reasonable or normal behaviors. Martin also has a history of calling law enforcement about his phone not working and hearing people around his house.”
He was charged with false report of a crime and booked into the Coffee County Jail. He was released on a $500 property bond.
