James Edward (Jim) Young passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord on Thursday, July 9, 2026, surrounded by family who loved him.
Jim was born on December 3, 1936 in Douglas, Georgia to Ollis Hinson Young and Jack Young. He attended school in Douglas and at South Georgia College before transferring to the University of Georgia. Before his senior year, he went to Atlanta to find employment to finance his final year of college. He found employment at the capitol building in Atlanta as a cashier in the office of the Treasurer. His career progressed to his appointment as the Assistant State Treasurer – the youngest constitutional officer at that time. After the election of 1970, he became Assistant Insurance Commissioner where he served until retirement in 1988.
Jim was married to Jacqueline Sikes and this union produced two children, son Jay and daughter Shelley. After this marriage ended, he married Linda Garrett in 1988, and became step-father to Stephen Price and Danny Price. Jim is survived by his wife Linda, Jay Young (LeeAnn), Shelley Levy (Dave), Stephen Price (Jan) and Danny Price (Tammi), 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 pm on July 18, 2026 at Madison Methodist Church, Madison, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to Madison Methodist Church, 1091 Confederate Road, Madison, Georgia, 30650. Honorary pallbearers are the Dodad Men’s Emmaus Group and Jim’s grandsons.
