Douglas police officers arrested a 34-year-old a few blocks away from an auto accident from which allegedly fled.
According to the incident report, on August 1, 2026, at around 3:30 p.m., an officer responded to a hit and run at the intersection of North Madison Avenue and East Leon Street. The driver of vehicle two was at the scene and had a small cut on his right leg but was otherwise unhurt, the report says.
Vehicle one was about 100 yards away on East Leon and had been abandoned. The driver of vehicle two stated that he was traveling north on North Madison when vehicle one ran through the stop sign and struck his vehicle. The driver of vehicle one, identified as Richard Justin Morre, 34, of Douglas, got out of his vehicle and left the scene on foot, according to the report.
Another officer found Moore at the intersection of Peachtree and Daughtry. Moore was the registered owner to vehicle one and he had a set of keys in his pocket that matched vehicle one.
Moore was arrested and charged with hit and run, driving with a suspended license, driving on a suspended/revoked/canceled registration, and no insurance. He was booked into the Coffee County Jail and later released on bond.
