Coffee Regional Medical Center is pleased to welcome Douglas native Ian Furtado, M.D., to the medical staff and CRH Family Medicine Group. Dr. Furtado will begin seeing patients Thursday, October 1, 2026, and is now accepting new patients.
A board-certified family medicine physician, Dr. Furtado brings a strong connection to the Coffee County community and a broad range of experience in providing comprehensive primary care. After growing up in Douglas, Dr. Furtado attended the University of Georgia before earning his medical degree from the Medical University of the Americas in Nevis, with clinical training in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Most recently, he practiced family medicine in Alma.
Returning to his hometown to practice medicine is an opportunity Dr. Furtado looks forward to.
“Coming back home to practice medicine is very meaningful to me,” Dr. Furtado said. “I’m excited to join Coffee Regional Medical Center and grateful to have the opportunity to care for individuals and families in the community where I grew up. My goal is to provide patients with personalized, comprehensive care and to build lasting relationships with the people I serve.”
Dr. Furtado will provide primary care for patients ages 16 and older, with services including preventive care, wellness visits, chronic disease management and treatment for acute illnesses. His areas of care include the management of conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, as well as evaluation and ongoing treatment for ADHD, anxiety and depression.
Same-day sick appointments will also be available, providing patients with convenient access to care when they need to be seen quickly.
“We are very happy to welcome Dr. Furtado back to Douglas and to Coffee Regional Medical Center,” said Vicki Lewis, President and CEO of Coffee Regional Medical Center. “Having a physician with deep roots in our community return home to practice is especially meaningful. Dr. Furtado brings experience, compassion and a genuine desire to serve the people of this community, and we are excited about the difference he will make for our patients and families.”
Dr. Furtado will practice at CRH Family Medicine Group, located at 200 Doctors Drive, Suite S, in Douglas. The practice is now accepting new patients. To schedule an appointment, call (912) 292-0658.
Dr. Furtado joins Coffee Regional Medical Center alongside his wife, Neha Kakkar, M.D., who will contribute to the CRMC Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Kakkar will work with CRMC’s internal medicine residents as they continue their training and development as physicians.
The couple, who have a young son, are looking forward to caring for our community and becoming part of the Coffee Regional Medical Center family.
“Dr. Furtado and Dr. Kakkar bring valuable experience and a shared commitment to medical education and patient care,” Lewis said. “We are excited to welcome them and look forward to the contributions they will make to both our patients and our residency program.”
