Those long road trips seem a little shorter when you’re coming home after a win. Thursday, the CCA Lady Patriots made sure the trip home from Macon was as short as possible.
They defeated the Mount de Sales Cavaliers14-0 in five innings in Macon, improving to 8-2 on the season. CCA had the game in control, leading 5-0 after the third inning when they decided to put the game away for good. They scored nine runs in the fifth inning then held the Cavaliers scoreless in the bottom of the inning to win via run rule.
A pair of pitchers, Peighton Harper and Allie Veal, kept the Cavaliers at bay all afternoon. Harper threw four innings and gave up two hits. She struck out five and walked one. Veal pitched the final inning and struck out all three batters she faced.
Emma Gourley doubled for CCA’s only extra base hit of the game. She also scored twice and drove in two. Madi Rucker had two RBI. Mattie Lewis scored three runs while Shanley Meeks scored two.
The Lady Patriots have a week off before they return to action on August 27 when Pinewood comes to town.
