On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, the City of Douglas held a collaborative meeting with apartment complex managers at 10 a.m. in City Hall. The purpose of the meeting was to continue positive discussions aimed at supporting managers in creating safer living environments for their tenants through partnerships with city officials and local law enforcement.
“We are moving in a positive direction with a shared goal for the neighborhoods surrounding our apartment complexes,” said Mayor Tony Paulk. “Everyone wants to live in a safe community, and we will continue working together to make that happen.”
Building on prior conversations about safety and crime prevention, the meeting offered managers the opportunity to share ideas and recommendations for reducing criminal activity in and around Douglas apartment properties. Mayor Tony Paulk also introduced a revised copy of the proposed ordinance that may require apartment complexes to install surveillance cameras either at main entrances or throughout various public areas of their properties.
Each manager also received crime statistics from the Douglas Police Department detailing the types of calls associated with their respective complexes. Overall, managers and owners left the meeting with a clearer understanding of the positive purpose of the proposed ordinance and a renewed commitment to identifying solutions to address crime on their properties. The city emphasized the importance of educating tenants about the Douglas Police Department’s “See Something, Say Something” anonymous reporting line. Managers were encouraged to continue searching for appropriate solutions such as installing or expanding security camera systems, ensuring appropriate access to the Douglas Police Department, and improving exterior lighting within their complexes where needed.
