A 68-year-old woman has been arrested after she allegedly took her sister’s car, laptop, and used her credit card without authorization while her sister was in the hospital over a year ago.
A report from the sheriff’s office says that on July 5, 2025, the complainant was admitted to Coffee Regional Medical Center on June 25, 2025. She stayed in the hospital until July 2, 2025. While she was in the hospital, her sister, identified as Carol Dukes of Nicholls, took her car without her permission, the report says. Dukes also allegedly took her laptop, valued at $500, and would not return it. Additionally, the report says that Dukes used the complainant’s credit card multiple times.
The responding officer spoke to Dukes about the laptop. According to the report, Dukes said she accidentally took the laptop and the complainant could come to Tifton to pick it up. The report says that Dukes wouldn’t give any further details regarding the whereabouts of the laptop other than it was in Tifton.
The officer investigated the alleged unauthorized use of the credit card and obtained video footage of Dukes using the card at the Dollar General in Nicholls on June 23, 2025. He attempted to contact Dukes again but she wouldn’t answer his calls.
The officer took warrants on Dukes for theft by taking (two counts) and financial transaction card fraud.
On August 28, 2026, a deputy responded to a call at Country Girl Mobile Home Park on Old Axson Road in Douglas. The complainant on the call was having problems with two of his relatives and wanted them removed from the property. One of the relatives was Dukes. She was arrested on the warrants and booked into the Coffee County Jail. Dukes was later released on bond.
