The CCA Lady Patriots won their 13th game of the season – and their first region game – Thursday against the Vidalia Heritage Academy Eagles 14-2 in Douglas.
The game ended after four innings via run rule. CCA scored in every inning – one in the first, five in the second, six in the third, and two in the fourth – while the two Lady Patriots in the circle kept the Eagles off balance all day.
Leading 12-2 in the bottom of the fourth, Allie Veal led off with a walk. After a strikeout, Arabelle Roberts singled but advanced to third on an error. Veal scored on the play to go up 13-2. Brilynn Waldron reached safely on a bunt to third; however, Roberts couldn’t score and remained on base. Pinch hitter Madi Rucker singled on the first pitch she saw, driving in Roberts and invoking the 12-run mercy rule for the win.
Shanley Meeks and Roberts were the only Lady Patriots with multiple hits. Both finished with two apiece. The Eagles committed six errors, which allowed most of the CCA lineup to get on base at least once. Of the Lady Patriots’ 12 runs, only two were earned.
Only one CCA hitter had an extra base hit – Emma Gourley hit a two-run home run in the third.
Waldron and Roberts scored three runs while Klair Mercer, Maci Rucker, and Veal scored two apiece.
Peighton Harper and Allie Veal handled the pitching duties. Harper went three innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with a strikeout. Veal threw the final inning, needing just six pitches to retire the Eagles.
The Lady Patriots are 13-3 overall and 1-0 in region competition. CCA travels to Jesup for a game against Wayne County Monday afternoon. After that game, the Lady Patriots run an eight-game gauntlet of region contests. They finish the season on October 6 with a non-region game against Crisp Academy.
