Dorothy Carver Dickson, age 99, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 13, 2026. She was born in Douglas, Georgia, on March 26, 1927, to the late Harry O’Steen and Stella Grantham.
Dot’s love language was baking, and if you ever tasted one of her cakes, you knew she made it with love. She found joy in gardening and tending to her plants, spending days outdoors fishing, and enjoying a good fish fry after a day on the water. Most of all, Dot was a woman of deep faith who loved her church and the Lord.
Affectionately known as Mema by her family, she loved and treasured her time with them. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she loved celebrating all their milestones and accomplishments. Above all, her love, kindness, and the beautiful memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Her survivors include: her daughter, Judy (James) Dennis of Douglas, Georgia; two grandchildren, Walda (Jeff) Kight of Douglas, Georgia, and Deanne (Paul) Rareshide of Milton, Georgia; five great-grandchildren, Brandon Kight, Lauren Kight, Andrew Rareshide, Alex Rareshide, and Adeline Rareshide; one sister, Hazel Newell of Ambrose, Georgia; and one brother Stanford “Buck” (Mary) O’Steen of Douglas, Georgia. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
The Dickson family would like to thank the staff of Infinity Hospice and special caregiver Tony Wynn for their loving care and compassion.
Along with her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, Riley “Buddy” Carver; her second husband, Wayne Dickson; and her sister, Addie Stoeffler.
A funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 16, 2026 in the chapel of Sims Funeral Home. The Dickson family will receive friends one hour before the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers please donate to the Grantham Cemetery Fund, 803 Andrew St., Douglas, Georgia, 31533. Sims Funeral Home is in Charge of arrangements.
