A 66-year-old was arrested and jailed on battery charges after he allegedly assaulted a woman who he thought had stolen money from him.
According to an incident report from the Douglas Police Department, around 1:45 p.m. on September 5, 2026, an officer responded to an assault call at an East Baker Highway address. When he arrived, he spoke with the female victim who said that Michael Anthony Woods, 66, of Douglas, had stayed the night with her. He had taken a nap, the report says, and when he woke from the nap, he accused her of stealing money from him. They began arguing then he assaulted her, according to the report. A neighbor heard the commotion and called 911. The victim had marks on her head and one eye consistent with being in an altercation, the report states.
Woods had left and returned to his home by the time officers arrived. They went to his home and spoke with him. The report says that Woods stated that he noticed his money wasn’t in his pocket. He asked the victim about it and she became angry. He said that she pushed him. He eventually admitted that he pushed her back but denied leaving any marks on her.
Woods was arrested and charged with battery. He was booked into the Coffee County Jail and later released.
