Friday night’s game between the #2-ranked Fullington Academy Trojans and the #4-ranked CCA Patriots at Patriot Field in Douglas had several big storylines. It was supposed to be a hard-fought contest between two potential playoff teams. And it was a rematch from last year’s first-round playoff game, also played at Patriot Field, which the Trojans won 28-20 after the Patriots led 20-8 in the first quarter.
This time around, things were different. The Patriots finally put together a complete four quarters of football and made a big statement with a 61-20 win.
Fans were treated to a historic offensive performance; the Patriots scored the most points a CCA team has ever put on the board. Running back Dalton Rogers had 13 carries for 270 yards and three touchdowns. He scored on runs of 89, 64, and eight yards. Tyson Crosby had four carries for 98 yards and three scores. Crosby’s rushing touchdowns came on runs of 35, 41, and 20 yards. He also caught one pass for a 51-yard touchdown. Quarterback Sam Ables was 2-4 passing for 63 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also rushed for 38 yards and a score.
The Patriots carried a 35-12 lead into halftime and only allowed one second-half touchdown, a kick return by Tucker Sorrow midway through the third quarter.
“[Fullington is] a great team. They fought hard. But my guys played the way I’ve been asking them to play for three years. I have some tough, tough young men. They played so hard, practiced so hard. We finally played a clean game and it really showed. I couldn’t be more proud,” said CCA head coach Jed Marsh after the game.
The Patriots are 4-1 this season and have four games remaining, two of which are at home. Next week, CCA hosts the Grace Christian Academy Cougars from Bainbridge. The Cougars defeated Holy Spirit Prep tonight 21-0 and are 3-2 overall. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Patriot Field.
