Things didn’t go well for the Coffee Lady Trojans last Thursday. Coffee hosted the Lee County Trojans at Faircloth Field for a doubleheader and Lee came with a pair of wins, 5-0 and 6-4. Lee also won their first matchup on Tuesday, handing Coffee its first region sweep of the season.
In game one, Coffee managed just three hits – one each from Kanlee Douglas, Addy Spikes, and Bella Purvis.
Douglas threw a complete game, striking out two and walking one. She gave up five runs (three earned) on eight hits.
It didn’t go much better for Coffee in game two. The Lady Trojans did get on the board – they bookended the game with a pair of runs in the first and the seventh – but couldn’t keep Lee in check. Lee scored one in the second, three in the fourth, and two in the seventh to complete the sweep.
Maggie Brown and Spikes had two hits while Jocelyn Fender scored twice. Fender also doubled for Coffee’s only extra base hit.
Brown handled the pitching duties for Coffee, giving up six runs (two earned) on 10 hits while striking out three to one walk.
Coffee faces one more region opponent, Thomas County Central, before finishing the season with non-region games against Jeff Davis, Ware, and Thomasville. The Lady Trojans are 13-10 overall and 9-6 in region play.
