A 27-year-old from Collins has been arrested and charged with theft by deception after he allegedly agreed to build a porch for an individual in Coffee County. The man, Gavin Gibson of Collins, allegedly asked for $1,100 up front for materials but never returned to do the work.
According to a report from the sheriff’s office, on August 11, 2025, the complainant met with a deputy regarding the incident. The complainant said that Gibson agreed to do the work at his house. The report says that Gibson stated the project would cost $2,100. He asked for $1,100 up front to get the materials needed to start. The complainant took the money and never returned, according to the report.
The complainant called Gibson, who initially made several excuses as to why he hadn’t returned, according to the report. Finally, Gibson stopped answering calls. The complainant had five different numbers for Gibson; all had been disconnected.
The complainant filed a report with the sheriff’s office. On September 9, 2026, Gibson was taken into custody and booked into the Coffee County Jail on theft by deception charges. He was released on a $1,500 property bond.
