DouglasNow has learned that authorities in South Georgia have arrested James Lawrence III, 47, of Fitzgerald, in connection with the murder of Christy Myers, which occurred September 15, 1998, near Broxton.
According to the GBI, Christy, who was 20 at the time, left her residence to go to the store in Broxton late on September 14, 1998. Multiple witnesses saw and/or spoke with Christy at the store. She was seen leaving the store alone in her vehicle.
Shortly after midnight on September 15, 1998, Christy was found deceased outside of her car on the side of the Broxton-Fitzgerald Highway in Coffee County. A neighborhood canvass of the area determined that residents heard a conversation and then a car engine accelerate. A citizen went to investigate the disturbance and found Christy deceased.
Officials have continued to investigate Christy’s murder since her death. Authorities got a break in the case this week and arrested Lawrence Thursday morning. He was booked into the Coffee County Jail just after 11 a.m. Lawrence has been charged with aggravated assault, murder, and malice murder.
