A 41-year-old Douglas man was jailed on multiple charges last month, including arson, following an alleged alcohol-fueled domestic incident.
According to a report from the police department, an officer responded to a domestic call on September 24, 2026, at 7 p.m. The report says that the female victim told the officer that she and her partner, Juan Vasquez, 41, had been arguing since he got off work at 5 p.m. The report says that Vasquez had started drinking when he got off work.
During the argument, the report says that Vasquez broke the victim’s phone, grabbed her by the arm, and burned her clothes, personal papers, and the damaged phone. When officers arrived at Vasquez’s home to speak with him, they discovered a fire and called the fire department to put it out.
Vasquez was arrested and charged with battery – family violence (1st offense), arson – 2nd degree, and criminal damage to property – 2nd degree. He was transported to the Coffee County Jail and released on property bonds for each charge.
