On October 12, 2026, an officer with the Broxton Police Department was conducting routine patrol duties when they observed a motorist traveling on a public roadway without wearing a seatbelt.
The officer initiated a traffic stop for the observed violation. Upon making contact with the driver, the officer detected the distinct odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A probable cause search of the vehicle was subsequently conducted.
During the search, officers discovered approximately 13 pounds of suspected methamphetamine concealed within the vehicle. The driver was taken into custody and faces criminal charges in connection with the discovery.
This seizure serves as yet another powerful reminder that some of the largest drug seizures begin with the smallest traffic violations. What began as a routine seatbelt violation quickly developed into a significant narcotics investigation, resulting in a substantial quantity of dangerous drugs being removed from the streets.
The Broxton Police Department remains steadfast in its commitment to proactive policing, aggressive drug interdiction, and protecting the citizens of this community. BPD officers understand that no violation is too small to warrant attention and that proactive enforcement can make a tremendous difference in keeping dangerous narcotics out of neighborhoods.
“We commend the officers of the Broxton Police Department for their unwavering dedication, vigilance, and commitment to protecting our small town from the devastating effects of illegal drugs. Thirteen pounds of suspected methamphetamine will not be making its way into our community or surrounding communities because of the proactive efforts of our officers,” says Broxton police chief Austin Medders.
