Betty Carol Day Smith, 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 13, 2024.

A celebration of her life will be held at West Ward Street Church of God, 700 W. Ward Street, Douglas, Georgia 31533 on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Bishop Britt Peavy and Rev. Mike Howard with a brief tribute from the family by Jon Smith, her son. Burial will be in the Broxton City Cemetery immediately after the services. The family will be receiving friends prior to the services at West Ward Street Church of God beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Betty was born January 10, 1933 in Broxton, Georgia to the late George H. Day and Annie Mae Day. In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Lawson Rudolph “Dolph” Smith, and her eight siblings, Edward Day, Adron Day, Leroy Day, James Day, Willene Graham, Delorice Wooten, JoAnn Renew, and Aubrey Day.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her three daughters and one son, Betty D. Solomon (Mike) of Douglas, GA, Carol Smith, of Douglas, GA, Wanda S. Quinn (Curtis) of St. Marys, GA, and Jon L. Smith (Phyllis) of Glennville, GA. Betty is also survived by her loving grandchildren: Stephen Quinn (Katie), Adria Schroff (Eric), Caryn Shipes (Jason), Kacy Thurman, Dylan Smith (Kaitlyn), Alex Viljoen, and Andrew Viljoen. She was blessed to also have six great grandchildren, Christopher Shipes, Savannah Quinn, Austin Quinn, Asher Schroff, Lily Schroff, and Evie Kate Smith.

Betty graduated from Broxton High School and moved to New York while her devoted husband, Lawson R. Smith, completed his tour in the Navy. She began working as a legal secretary while living in Athens, GA as Lawson attended UGA. This led to a long career as a Court Reporter for Betty which extended more than 47 years across all of Southern Georgia. Betty was a Christian wife and Mother and and active member of First Baptist Church in Glennville, GA, and the West Ward Street Church of God, Douglas, GA in her later years. Betty loved raising her children and taught each of them to be independent, appreciate the simple things in life, and to always love your family. “Nana” and “Gran Nana” will be truly missed by her family and friends.

Memorial donations can be made to Lakeside Senior Living, 1025 Chester Avenue N. Douglas, GA 31533 in her honor, or flowers to Ricketson Funeral Home, Douglas, GA in lieu of a donation. Condolences may be left for the family at www.ricketsonfuneralhome.com
