Sergeant Michael Todd Watson, 51, of Broxton, Georgia, a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and the Georgia National Guard, entered his heavenly rest on Monday, January 29, 2024 at his residence. Mr. Watson was born on May 12, 1972 to the late Samuel Thomas Watson and Mrs. Ann Watson of Douglas, Georgia.

At the age of 23 he joined the United States Marine Corps in 1995 and served as a personnel clerk until 1999. Upon his discharge, in 2004 he enlisted in the Army National Guard and was assigned to the CO C 648th Engineer and was deployed until 2006. In 2008 he was re-deployed under the 848th Engineer Sapper FC. He was a member of both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

Mr. Watson was an active member of Carver Baptist Church in Douglas, where he served as the Safety Team Coordinator.

Mr. Watson was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending time at his vacation home in Steinhatchee, Florida.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Monica Corbitt Watson; his daughter, Alisa Arnold of Jacksonville, FL; his mother, Ann Watson of Douglas, GA; his brother, Christopher (Vicky) Watson of Bainbridge, GA; father and mother-in-law, Ken and Miriam Corbitt of Broxton, GA; one sister-in-law, Karen Corbitt of Douglas, GA; 3 nieces, Erica Hanna (Ryan) of Douglas, GA; Nalee Watson of Satsuma, AL; MyKynleigh Harrell of Bainbridge, GA; 1 nephew, Gavee Watson of Satsuma, AL; one great-nephew, Logan Hanna of Douglas, GA; and his beloved dog, Reggie.

Mr. Watson’s homegoing service is set for Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Carver Baptist Church at 2 PM with Pastor Philip Corbean and Pastor Den Weniger officiating. The visitation will be from 12:30 until the time of the service.

Interment will follow in the Taylor Family Cemetery in Pridgen, GA with full military honors.

Active pallbearers will be members of the safety team of Carver Baptist Church. The honorary pallbearers will be members of the United States Marines Corps and Army National Guard.

Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
