The Citizens Christian Academy Patriots have dropped three of their last four, most recently falling 3-2 to Lanier County Monday afternoon in Lakeland.

On Monday, March 18, the Patriots lost to Trinity Christian 13-6. After scoring three in the second and two in the third, CCA held a 5-4 lead. However, Trinity Christian put the game away with nine runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Patriots managed a run in the seventh but that was all they could muster.

CCA bounced back on March 19 with an 11-1 win over Westwood in Douglas. The Patriots were leading 1-0 when they scored eight in the fourth to take a comfortable 9-0 lead. They added runs in the fifth and sixth to increase their lead to 11-1 (Westwood plated one run in the fifth).

Case Snipes led the way offensively for CCA with five RBI. Landon Williams had three hits and two RBI. Taeven Harden scored three times and recorded a pair of hits. Thomas Gentry took the win for CCA. He went four innings and only gave up two hits and one unearned run while striking out eight. Blake Bryant finished things up with two innings of work.

Thursday, March 21, Pinewood defeated CCA 5-1. Bryant took the loss, lasting 5 2/3 innings and giving up four hits and five earned runs while striking out six. Sam Ables threw the last 1 1/3 innings to finish things up. Gray McLean, Gentry, and Bryant were the only Patriots to hit safely. McLean scored CCA’s only run.

The schedule didn’t get any easier for the Patriots on Monday, March 25, when they traveled to Lakeland to face Lanier County. Lanier took a 3-0 lead then CCA answered with a pair of runs in the fifth. Bryant led off with a single. Then, a couple of batters later with two outs, Hunter Hayes doubled to score Bryant. McLean then singled to score Tyson Crosby, who was pinch running for Hayes. That brought the score to 3-2; unfortunately, that is as close as CCA would get. Jonathan Rutland threw a gem for the Patriots. He only gave up one hit and he struck out 12 while walking just three. All three of Lanier’s runs were unearned.

The Patriots are now 8-5 on the season and have two more games this week: Coastal Home School today and Southwest Georgia Academy on Friday. Both games are at home and have 4:30 p.m. start times.
